Regional track and field notebook.
DIVISION 1
The Rockford girls track team dominated the field at the Grand Rapids regional, scoring 160.7 points, while East Lansing placed second with 82. Sammy Cuneo won both the 200- and 400-meter dashes for the Rams, while Maegan McCarthy won the shot put and discus. Maja Hill (800-meter dash) and Olivia Rademacher (300-meter hurdles) also won titles.
The Okemos boys won the title at the Grand Rapids regional. Kael Fineout led the way with a win in the 800-meter run.
Oak Park swept the boys’ and girls’ titles at the North Farmington regional. Anna Jefferson was a dual winner for the Oak Park girls, who swept all four relays.
DIVISION 2
Mason won both the girls’ and the boys’ regional titles at the event that it hosted. Joe Grundstrom won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Justin Scavarda won the shot put and Jarrett VanHavel won the pole vault.
Williamston won both boys’ and girls’ regional titles at the Linden regional. Seth Kerby won the high jump and Tyler Lamar won the long jump for the boys, while Sarah Schultz won the high jump for the girls.
The Chippewa Hills girls won the title at the regional that they hosted. Nicole Snyder won the 200-meter dash and was also a member of two of the three Warriors relay teams that won titles.
The Essexville-Garber boys won the regional title at Chippewa Hills. Jacob Sansburn led the way, as he won both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. Josiah Morse won the 800-meter run and was second in the 1600-meter run, while Blake Oakes won the 400-meter dash.
Alex Grace turned in a big performance at Chippewa Hills. The future Western Michigan University football player won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and was part of the winning 4×100 relay team.
DIVISION 3
The Pewamo-Westphalia girls turned in a strong effort in winning the regional title at Kent City. Brenna Wirth led the way, as she won the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes and was also part of the winning 4×400 relay team. Abby Wirth won the pole vault, while Emma Schafer was first in the shot put.
At the Clare regional, both the Clare boys and girls captured titles. The boys dominated the distance events, as Kevin Spicer-Torres won the 1600-meter run and Jimmy Teall, Kyler Phillips, and Ben Haupt finished first, second, and third in the 3200-meter run.
The Nouvel boys won the regional title at Shepherd. Robi Stuart and Jacob Gray placed first and second in the shot put and Gray also won the discus to lead the way for Nouvel.
Lakeview had a pair of field event winners at Shepherd, as Drake Boomer won the long jump and Jeremiah Ropelski won the pole vault.
DIVISION 4
The Fowler girls turned in an impressive effort enroute to winning the regional title at Webberville. Allison Hufnagel led the way, winning the high jump and the 300-meter low hurdles. Sidney Horak won the long jump, Ciera Weber won the pole vault, and Kiah Becker won the 800-meter run.
Claudia Freed of New Lothrop was a dual winner in the discus and shot put at the Webberville regional.
The Beal City girls captured the trophy at the Breckenridge regional. Emily Steffke led the way, as she won the 800- and 1600-meter runs. Hannah Steffke won the 3200-meter run, while Ashley Reihl won the 300-meter hurdles.
Nick Pung of the Beal City boys’ team was a dual winner at the regional, as he won both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.
Kyle Smith of Breckenridge claimed a pair of titles at the Webberville regional, winning the shot put and discus.
Merrill had a pair of regional champions at Webberville, as Brianna Tedrow won the girls’ 100-meter dash and Jacob Kulhanek won the boys’ pole vault.
