The Alma College Wrestling team traveled to Cleveland, OH on Saturday to participate in the Bob Del Rosa Duals as part of the Case Western Wrestling Festival. The Scots dominated the five-team tournament in Cleveland, going a perfect 4-0 on the afternoon to be crowned champions. “We were pleased with the way we started off the season, said Alma Head Coach Todd Hibbs. “Our goal this year is to go from new to great, our performance today was good – but the goal is great.”

Alma led off the day with a convincing 49-5 victory over Mount Saint Joseph, followed by a win over John Carroll 30-9. The Scots then would face off with Baldwin Wallace, the 13th ranked team in the nation. Alma was unphased by the national ranking, winning the match 20-12

The final match proved the toughest for the Scots, edging out NCAA Division II Ohio Valley by just one point 19-18. Alma featured numerous wrestlers go undefeated at the event, including #7 Jr. Jamie Jakes (Dearborn/Divine Child) who went 4-0 on the afternoon at 174. Jr. Trevor Maresh (Northville/Northville) also went unblemished at heavyweight.

 

Sr. James Carey (Ithaca/Ithaca) left Cleveland with a 4-0 record, including a win over an opponent ranked second in the country at 149.The Scots will travel to Arkadelphia, AR on Friday, Nov. 14, to participate in the Hatcher Duals. The event is hosted by Ouchita Baptist and is set to start at 10 CST.
