Coach Dan Boggan is not short with praise for his star wide receiver/outside linebacker Rayshawn Wilborn. “Eyes were definitely opened this summer,” said Boggan, referring to the offers Wilborn received from Western Michigan University and Central Michigan University. “Ray is a big-time player, and me and this team fully expect him to step up and make those plays in games.”
This summer was especially good to Wilborn. As the Sexton Big Reds traveled around the state playing in 7-on-7 tournaments, the college offers started adding up. In addition to the offers from Central and Western, Eastern Michigan University made an offer, as well. The allure to be on the field as early as possible led Wilborn to chose Central Michigan University. “They told me if I work hard, I could be on the field as a freshman.” A 4.45 second 40-yard dash and a 37” vertical jump might help with that, as well.
With the state semifinal loss fresh on his mind, Wilborn is focused on one thing for himself and his team. “I’m not making any excuses for last season; it was cold in the Marine City game, but that was the most physical team I have ever played against.” He added, “This season we are going to make sure that Sexton is the most physical team all of our opponents play. If we don’t win the state championship, it isn’t because of a lack of talent, just preparation, and Coach Boggan does a great job of making sure we are prepared.”
