The Ithaca Yellowjackets are seeking an unprecedented 5th consecutive state football championship, and they added a playmaker to the fold this season.

Grant Gimmey has had an immediate impact and has helped Ithaca start the season a perfect 4-0.

If there is pressure not to be the class that ends the Yellowjackets’ streak, you wouldn’t know it by talking to the players. “We don’t think about it,” said Gimmey. “We all have confidence in each other that we will get the job done, and that helps us just go out and play football.”

At 5’10” and 155 pounds, Gimmey plays on both sides of the ball, and his stats speak for themselves. In only 4 games, he has 9 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he has returned an interception for a touchdown and has broken up several pass plays.

Halfway through his senior season, Gimmey continues to work hard at the things he can do better in hopes of receiving a scholarship to play football after this season. “ I’m working hard at getting faster and maintaining my blocks through the play.”

In 2008, he had the opportunity to learn from Michigan State University quarterbacks Ryan VanDyke and Jeff Smoker, as well as to receive advice from former Spartan and NFL wide receiver Herb Haygood. “ I learned how to get open and run good routes, so that was the best thing I got out of that experience.”
