Lansing Everett Vikings receiver Damon Terry is primed and ready for a huge senior season. After finishing last year with 40 catches for 888 yards and 12 touchdowns, he was rewarded with a Division I offer to play for coach Dan Enos at Central Michigan University.
“It feels like my hard work is finally paying off,” said Terry, in reference to the off-season summer workouts, weight room work, and 7-on-7 tournaments in which he participated.
Terry’s goal for the 2014 season is to not only win the CAAC Blue division but to also change the perception of Everett Viking football. “I think a lot of people see us as undisciplined and just speed. But we have good leadership on this team, and I think people will be surprised at the end of the season.” Terry can’t deny the fact that he is “speed,” having been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.37 seconds. The “undisciplined“ label doesn’t seem to fit, though, as Terry will be taking pre-law classes at Central Michigan and intends on being a defense attorney when his football days are over for the Chippewas.
With Everett off to a 2-1 start in the league, the October 17 showdown with rival Sexton looms large. Terry will be matched against his future teammate, Rayshawn Wilborn. “I will be following him all over the field, so hopefully we can slow him a little.” Everett coach Marcelle Carruthers has complete confidence in his senior leader. “Damon is our deep threat and he is a smart football player. I believe we match up well with not only Sexton, but all the teams on our schedule.”
