New Lothrop made the long trip to Marquette on Dec. 21 and came back as champions of the 20-team wrestling tournament.
New Lothrop scored 246 points compared to 204 for Merrill (Wisc.), 155 for Grandville 145.5 for Gaylord and 128.5 for Mason.
Cole Hersch led New Lothrop with a fourth place at 119 pounds, beating Jon Martin of Gaylord 15-2. Connor Krupp was second at 103 pounds after getting pinned in 4:59 by Dom Lajoie of Gaylord. Also taking firsts for New Lothrop were Aaron Bauman at 152, John Wendling at 160, Taylor Krupp at 171 and Cody Symons at 189. Gabe Bennett took a second for NL at 135 pounds after being pinned in 5:21 by Collin Tomkins of Grandville. Owen Wilson was second at 215 pounds.
