Krissy Harmon has already qualified for the Division 2 girls’ swimming and diving state meet in five events.

The Bay City Western junior has personal goals of eclipsing the five-minute mark in the 500-yard freestyle and improving on her third-place finish in that event at last year’s state meet. A by-product of her quest to achieve those goals was the Swimmer of the Meet honor she received in late September’s Tri-Cities Swimming and Diving championships held at Saginaw Valley State University.

At that meet, Harmon won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.27 and the 500 freestyle in 5:07.13. She also helped the 400 freestyle relay to a runner-up finish and the 200 freestyle relay team to a fifth-place finish.

Harmon wasn’t aware she was in the running for the honor after the meet. I went to cool off after the meet, and somebody had to come and tell me,” she said afterward. “It’s pretty cool because I’ve never won it before.”

Harmon and her sister, senior Chelsea Harmon, join Malorie Owczarzak and Molly Grant on the state-qualifying 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Krissy Harmon also qualified for the state meet in the 200 and 500 freestyles and in the 100 backstroke.

I’m pretty close to my times from last year, and I’m on track to beat five minutes in the 500 freestyle,” Krissy Harmon said.

Chelsea Harmon qualified for the state meet in the 50 freestyle, while Owczarzak qualified in the 200 medley. Both girls have qualified for state in the 100 freestyle.

The Warriors finish the season with the Saginaw Valley League Championship on Saturday, November 9 and the state finals on Friday and Saturday, November 22-23, at Eastern Michigan University.
