When it comes to the best doubles players of all time in the state of Michigan, Midland Dow senior Jason Chang has to be in the conversation.
Chang, with his partner Vikram Shanker, wrapped up his career at the Division 2 state meet by winning a fourth-straight state title with a two-set victory against University of Detroit Jesuit. Along the way, Chang set a new career record for wins by a doubles player with 138. Shanker finished second on the career doubles victory list with 132.
While Chang was pleased with the win record, capturing a fourth straight team title was the main thought on his mind.
“My primary goal was for our team to win states,” Chang said. “This [win record] was just something that came along with it. The state title feels great. It is something we have been working for.”
Chang and Shanker won their second consecutive doubles title this season. Chang had different partners for his first two championships.
Winning four state titles was something Chang never dreamed would happen. “It feels great,” he said. “I had no idea I would be even able to compete, and to win four titles is just amazing.”
