Ellie Nichols of Onekama shot a 79 and wound up with a two-day total of 155 to win the medalist honors in Division 2 of the state golf finals at Michigan State on Saturday.
But her team couldn’t hang onto a 17-stroke lead over Birmingham Seaholm and lost the state title by one stroke.
Okemos had 326 and Seaholm 343 on Friday. On Saturday, Seaholm shot a 320 to finish at 663, Okemos shot a 338 to finish at 664 for second place.
Midland Dow with 695 was third, East Lansing at 754 was eighth, Mount Pleasant at 801 was 12th and Greenville at 401 was 13th among the 15 teams.
Stephanie Carras of Dow shot a 159 for third place overall. Jessica Kim had a 164 for sixth place. Khrissa Carras of Midland Dow had rounds of 86 and 82 for a 168 to tie for 10th.
Also for Okemos, Sydney Williams shot a 171 and Carly Bullock a 174. For Midland Dow, Alexie Falmo had a 178 and Caroline Szabo a 190. Brianna Forsthhoefel and Molly Ring led East Lansing with 180s. Lauren Lyon had a 184 for Mount Pleasant and Karli Didion a 190 for Greenville.
