Are you ready for some football?

It’s a great day here at Sport Scene, and it is getting even better with the kickoff of the 2013 high school and college football seasons.

It’s hard to believe that we are beginning our fifth year here at Sports Scene. The 2013 season promises to be great, as we welcome aboard the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The GLIAC is home to some of the best schools and athletic programs around the entire state, and hundreds of former high school athletes are competing at GLIAC schools.

A special thank you to all our sponsors and supporters who have helped Sports Scene over the past five years grow into the premier high school sports monthly in the state. Your help and support has made the magazine and web site “must reads” for high school athletes, parents, and fans.

A special thanks goes out to all the guys and gals who helped put together the 2013 football issue. Great job everyone!

This year’s football issue is jam-packed with stories covering high school and college football teams and players from around the area.

The upcoming football season is full of intriguing story lines. Can Ithaca make it four in a row? Can Lowell slow down the Grand Rapids Christian express? Can Portland make another memorable playoff run? Will Holt regain the top spot in the CAAC Blue? Will DeWitt pick up where it left off last season? Who will win the wide-open Saginaw Valley North?

Football fans will also be able to watch some great individual players this fall. Ithaca quarterback Travis Smith, Alma lineman Curtis Doyle, Grand Rapids Christian wide receiver Drake Harris,  Heritage junior running back Brian Cole, and DeWitt  junior quarterback Jake Johnson are all worth the price of admission.

The college football season will also be full of excitement. Can Michigan or Michigan State break through and win the Legends Division and make it to the Big 10 title game? Can Central Michigan earn another bowl bid? Who will win what should be a wide-open GLIAC title, and what teams can advance to the D2 playoffs?

So settle in, head down to your local football field, and enjoy what promises to be a memorable 2013 football season!
