Baseball Dream Team
Corbin Clouse, Grand Ledge, Pitcher
Highlights: Clouse will join fellow Sports Scene Dream Team members Grant Miller and Keegan Akin in the fall at Western Michigan University. He led the Comets to one of their better seasons in 2013.
Brett Adcock, Bay City Western, Pitcher
Highlights: Adcock powered the No. 1-ranked Warriors to their first Division 1 state championship, going 12-0 (including 3-0 in the playoffs) with a 0.58 earned-run average and 124 strikeouts in 72 innings. He was the Saginaw Valley League North Most Valuable Player and made the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Dream Team, Division 1 All-State First Team, and All-Star Team.
Keegan Akin, Bullock Creek, Pitcher
Highlights: Akin, a senior lefty, finished the season 9-0 with a 0.29 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 49 innings and made First Team All-Tri-Valley Conference Central and Division 2 All-State First Team .
Logan Hessbrook, Ithaca, Pitcher
Highlights: Hessbrook went 8-1 overall and tallied an ERA of 0.83. In 56 2/3 innings, he allowed seven earned runs on 17 hits while striking out 105 and walking 26. He tossed three no-hitters and had five shutouts. At the plate, he hit .379 with 17 RBI and an on-base percentage of .507. He scored 16 runs and stole seven bases for the Yellowjackets, who went 19-4.
Grant Miller, Bay City Western, Infield
Highlights: Hit .458 with 31 RBI, 53 runs scored, and a school-record 33 walks. He made First Team All-SVL North, First Team All-State, and the MHSBCA Dream Team.
Daniel Pulver, Mt. Pleasant, Infield
Highlights: Pulver, who will play at Northwood next year, hit .418 with 11 doubles and five triples. He drove in 33 runs, scored 38 runs, and stole 15 bases. He went 3-3 on the hill, with a 1.67 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.
Ty Rollin, Beal City, Infield
Highlights: Rollins hit .360 for the D4 state finalists, with 22 RBI, 24 stolen bases, and 50 runs scored. He had nine doubles, three triples, and 23 walks. He also excelled as a pitcher, going 10-2 with an ERA of 1.10. In 62 2/3 innings, he struck out 78, walked 25, and allowed 10 earned runs.
Kory Young, Rockford, Infield
Highlights:
Ethan Wiskur, Powers Catholic, Infield
Highlights: Wiskur can play just about any position on the field, and his versatility took center stage once again this season, as his solid arm and mechanics led the Chargers to the Division 3 state quarterfinals.
Grant Bridgewater, Bay City Western, Catcher
Highlights: Bridgewater hit .411 with 35 RBI and made First Team All-SVL North, First Team All-State, and the MHSBCA Dream Team. He had the game-winning hits in the state quarterfinals and semifinals and will play for Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.
Zach Olszewski, John Glenn, Catcher
Highlights: . Olszewski batted .354 with four home runs, 13 doubles, and 35 RBI. He became John Glenn’s first 20-game winner, going 6-3 as a senior with a 1.85 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 53.1 innings. He will take his talents to Bethune-Cookman University in the fall.
Tanner Allison, Portland, Outfield
Highlights: Allison was named the first ever All-State baseball player from Portland High School. Only a junior, he has already committed to play at Western Michigan University.
