The Alma boy’s golf team continued its strong play this season as it finished second at the Division 3 district May 30 at Maple Leaf Golf Course in Linwood.
Tawas won the team title with a 316 while Alma was six strokes behind with a 322. Freeland placed third with a 353 followed by Pinconning (4th, 357), Hemlock (5th, 360) and Farwell (6th, 361 ). The top six teams advance to this week’s regional tournament.
Junior Jay Green led the way for Alma as he captured medalist honors with a 73. Alma finished with three of the top four individual scores as senior Sean Sommerville was third with a 75 and senior Brett Green was fourth with a 77.
Senior Raul Venagas led the way for Freeland as he placed seventh overall with an 82. Freshman Ben Balen followed with an 89 while freshman Spencer Kloc added a 90 and senior Connor Pollard a 92.
Junior Tyler Beckrow led the way for Hemlock as he placed 12th overall with an 87. Senior Trevor Proux placed 14th with an 89 while junior Brandon Brown carded a 90 and junior Spencer Mielke shot a 94.
Junior Mitch Nordstrom led the way for Farwell as he placed 10th with an 85. Senior Nicholas Saupe and sophomore Josh McCurry added rounds of 90 for Farwell.
Also qualifying as individuals for the regional tournament were Adam Marsh (83) of Bullock Creek and Zack Broekway (92) of Clare.
