The Saginaw Nouvel Catholic boy’s golf team was on top of its game during the Division 4 district tournament at the Mt. Pleasant Country Club on May 30.
Nouvel captured the district team title with a score of 322. New Lothrop finished in second, 30 strokes back, with a 352 team score. The top six teams at the team district qualified for this week’s regional. Also finishing in the top six were Burton St. Thomas More Academy (3rd, 364), Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart (4th, 384), Merrill (5th, 398) and Saginaw Valley Lutheran (6th, 402).
Nouvel was led by senior Brody Schiller who earned medalist honors as he fired a 73. Sophomore Nick Ludka was second individually with a 77. Junior James Fabiano finished fourth overall with an 83 while junior Hugh Lefevere rounded out the top four for Nouvel with an 89.
Seniors Aaron Beach and Connor Birchmeier led the way for New Lothrop with rounds of 85. Senior Mike Mucha added an 87 to also finish in the top ten individually while senior Trevor Beach shot a 95 to round out the top four.
Junior Kyle Pronick led the way for Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart as he finished fourth overall with an 83. Freshman Jacob Starry finished ninth with an 87.
Senior Sam Michael paced Merrill with a 91 to place 15th overall while freshman Jon Siler finished 18th with a 95.
Sophomore Jordan Rajewski led the way for Saginaw Valley Lutheran with a round of 90 and placed 14th as an individual.
A trio of other area golfers also qualified for the regional as individuals. Tyler Niederstadt of Breckenridge shot an 89 while teammate Jeremiah Taughe shot an 86. Ben Girzegorczyk of Bay City All Saints qualified with a round of 98.
