For the second year in a row the Rockford boy’s golf team made its way through the O-K Red Conference with a perfect record.
The road to the title was a little unexpected this season as the Rams suffered heavy graduation losses last season.
Rockford captured the O-K Red Conference post-season tournament at Grand Haven Golf Club. The Rams posted a 316 team total to win the title. Grandville placed second, eight strokes behind with a 324 while Grand Haven was third with 335 followed by West Ottawa (366), East Kentwood (368) and Hudsonville (368).
The title capped a season that saw the Rams win the mid-season conference tournament and win every league dual match it played it.
“I knew we had potential but never in a million years did I think we would go undefeated in the conference again,” Rockford coach Eric Cullum said. “They have just scored so well all season.”
Individually, junior A.J. Varekois and sophomore Joel Pietila finishing with rounds of 75 to tie for medalist honors. The two Rams then went to a playoff and Varekois won the playoff on the first hole.
Rockford also had two other golfers finish in the top ten as sophomore Michael Cooper placed eighth overall with an 84 and senior Todd Millar who carded an 82 to place 10th.
