February brings an end to the ski season, with the Division 1 state finals at Boyne Mountain and the Division 2 finals at Marquette Mountain on February 25.

Okemos, Rockford, and Heritage competed in Division 1 for the girls.

Emily Kommer and Emily McCauley were the top two Rockford skiers in the slalom.

Clare was fifth in the Division 2 regionals for girls and Mount Pleasant was ninth.

Maggie Merillat and Madi Cleary had strong seasons for Clare girls, qualifying for state, along with Brianna Zimmer of Mount Pleasant.

For the boys, Clare was first in giant slalom as a team. It took second in boys’ slalom, while Greenville was ninth and Mount Pleasant 11th.

Jordan Hales, Jeffrey Staten, and Brett Acton have been excellent for the Clare boys’ team.

Terry Avink, Rockford coach, said “Ben Avink has led our boys’ teams with two fourths, three thirds, four seconds, and a first. Kamron Ford has been our number two racer this season as a freshmen and has finished in the top 10 every race but one and has a bright future for our team.”

Greenville has been led by Tyler Rasmussen.

We’ve had a great time watching all the kids improve and get faster,” said Greenville coach Jonathan Duley. “Some of our kids could barely turn when we first started, but now they’re laying down some serious tracks on the hill.”
