Despite a game-high 27 points by Jessie Walter, the Midland High girls basketball team lost its first game of the season 53-50 to Saginaw High on the Trojans’ home floor.
The Chemics (3-1) held a 23-13 lead at the half, but a strong fourth quarter by the Trojans propelled them to victory. Saginaw High outscored Midland 25-12 in the final quarter to secoure the ‘W’.
Saginaw High (2-0) was led by Veronica Perkins and Nyashia Williams with 12 points a piece and Tamarea Steward chipped in 11. Perkins also led the Trjoans in rebounds with nine.
Lily Hami added 12 points for the Chemics.
