Led by 6-foot-9 sophomore Brad Brechting, the Cedar Springs boys basketball team opened the season with a split in its first two games.
The Red Hawks defeated Kent City 62-53 on opening night as Brechting turned in a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Brechting also blocked five shots in the win. Junior guard Cameron Link also turned in a double-double as he scored 18 points and hauled down 12 rebounds. Senior Robert Klein added 12 points while senior Trevor Hill finished with 10.
Cedar Springs went on the road in the second game of the season and dropped a 75-47 decision at Wyoming Godwin Heights. Brechting led the Red Hawks in scoring with 16 points while Link added 13 points.
The Red Hawks have a pair of tough games coming up at they go to defending O-K Blue Conference champion Comstock Park on Friday and then host Class D powerhouse Wyoming Tri-unity next Tuesday, Dec. 18.
