Saginaw Nouvel has started the season 2-0 after wins over Saginaw Arthur Hill (49-19) and Clare 59-58 in overtime.
In it’s win over the Lumberjacks, Nouvel held Arthur Hill to just 7 of 45 from the field. Taylor Hengesbach led the Panthers with 17 points, 13 in the first half, while Nicole Buckingham added 11 rebounds. Haley Zamora hit a second 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to lead Arthur Hill with six points.
Against Clare, Nouvel trailed 9-0 to start the game, but the Panthers led 27-25 at the half, but Clare rallied to outscore the Panthers 25-15 in the third quarter for a 50-42 lead.
Hengesbach scored 21 points while adding seven assists, six rebounds and five blocks for the Panthers. Freshman Laurel Jacqmain had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Clare’s Lindsay Winter had 33 points, including hitting seven 3-pointers.
