A fine season for the Belding girls volleyball team came to a halt in Tuesday’s 3-0 loss to Reed City in the Class B regional semifinals at Fremont.25-10, 25-19, 25-17.
“I didn’t think we serve received well at all,” said Belding coach Mikayla Linebaugh. “The first game especially, we were taken out of the game and struggled with their top spin server. She controlled it well and we struggled with it. That was the biggest thing. We didn’t serve receive well.”
Belding’s Sam McNeal served two straight points to make it 8-8. But Jacolyn Mullins, who sparked the Coyotes with 11 aces and 14 kills, served her team a 24-16 lead. Belding scored three straight points but a net error gave the Coyotes the 25th point and a 2-0 lead.
Hannah Linebaugh’s kill gave Belding some momentum despite trailing 12-8 in the third game. But it wouldn’t be enough.
“The biggest thing is I didn’t think we moved our block a lot to adjust,” Mikayla Linebaugh said. “They moved very well on defense. They’re a good team.”
Belding, 17-17-5, had four freshmen and no seniors but still went 3-0 in the districts for the title.
