The Belding Redskins defeated Lakeview 3-1 Monday in a Class B district first-round game at Belding. The Redskins had won the first game 25-21, but Lakeview seemed to have the momentum with a 26-24 victory in the second game  and had a 19-13 advantage at one stage in the third game. But Belding rallied for a 25-21 victory in game three and took game four 25-23 to win the match.

The momentum swung several times in every game. A block by Greta Wilker gave Belding a 15-5 lead in the first game. It was 22-12, Belding, but Lakeview’s Estelle Molitor served six straight points to get the team back in the game. It was 24-14 and then Erin VanderZand served six points for Lakeview. An out-of-bounds hit against Lakeview won the first game for Belding.

Belding’s girls taem  trailed most of the second game and narrowed it to 17-14 before the Wildcats took over to win the game.

When it was 19-13 in the second game and the Redskins appeared to be in trouble but came back and led 24-21 on three points from Stefanie Harig, including an ace.

Brooke Linebaugh had an ace which gave Belding a 17-10 lead in the fourth game. Belding led 19-12 but then Lakeview came back and cut it to 23-22 but the Redskins were able to pull it out.

Harig had five aces while Brooke Linebaugh contributed three aces and had 31 assists for Belding. Wilker contributed 15 digs while Sam McNeil and Harig added 10 apiece.

Lakeview’s season ended at 18-24-4.
