Nine-time defending Independent Swim Conference champion John Glenn was its usual self on Tuesday, September 18, outswimming visiting Oscoda 122-60.
Despite the overflow of success in recent years, 19th year head coach Mike Darbee isn’t focused on the past.
“I try not to think of previous years,” he said. “We have so much to work on this year.”
Darbee expects seniors Kristen Tobin and Breanne Bell to be solid in the relays, as they were last year, along with junior Kali Hartt, who took second in the state in the 100 backstroke.
Another key member is Macey Hilliker, who was conference champion in diving as a sophomore last year.
“[We’re] off to a good start; we swim at Gaylord [September 25] in a big meet,” Darbee said. “They have beaten us in duals the past two years, and this year will be a lot harder to win.”
As for racking up their 10th straight league championship and 26th since 1980, the coach admits it is a goal, but not the only one.
“[We want to win] the ISC championship, have personal bests for all girls, and move up at the state championship,” Darbee said.
