St. Johns scored a late touchdown and added the two-point conversion to edge Charlotte 21-20 in a thrilling season opener to the high school football season.

With 3:51 remaining in the game Kody Stockwell scored on a 15-yard run for St. Johns. Redwing quarterback Bryce LeBar then ran in the two-point conversion for the deciding points. 

LeBar also led the St. Johns offense with 86 yards passing.

Charlotte quarterback Ryan Bartolacci completed 19-of-40 passes for 253 yards. Charlotte wide receiver Alec Kushion caught a pair of touchdown passes and finished with 84 receiving yards on five catches.

St. Johns returns to action Thursday when it hosts Corunna while Charlotte takes on Jackson County Parma Western.
