The Fowler football team opened the 2012 season the same way it ended the 2011 season by falling to the powerful Mendon Hornets.
Mendon defeated Fowler 27-7 in Friday’s season opener at Fowler. Mendon defeated Fowler last November by a 33-0 score in the Division 8 state title game.
Mendon led 27-0 at the end of three quarters and dominated total yardage by a 395-164 margin. The Hornets also had 22 first downs to Fowler’s 12.
Tyler Koenigsknecht led Fowler offensively with 110 yards on 26 carries. Dustin Wirth scored Fowler’s lone touchdown with a five-yard run in the fourth quarter.
