The Bay City Western baseball team picked up a 4-3 eight-inning win over Midland on Friday, May 25, giving the Warriors a share of the Saginaw Valley League title with the Chemics.
The game was a continuation of a contest that had ended in a 3-3 tie on April 26, when it was called after seven innings due to darkness.
The Warriors (ranked No. 3 in Division 1 polls) finished with a 16-2 league record and could be a tough out in the upcoming state tournament.
LACROSSE
The Western Lacrosse team had its season come to an end on May 17, falling 7-2 at Lapeer West in a pre-regional contest.
“We had a great year for a third-year program,” head coach Todd Ballor said.
The Warriors went 12-4 this season and had what Ballor called ‘big wins’ over Port Huron, Heritage, and Davison.
Ballor also pointed out a big negative was losing to Lapeer West three times this year.
“I am losing my defensive starters, but our offense was mainly freshmen and sophomores,” Ballor said. “Austin Ballor, senior long pole, ran our strong zone defense. Nick Rajewski, Ethan Jacobs, Reid Robson, and Joey Billette were the heart of the offense and are all returning. We have no feeder program, but we are doing well with fifty-plus players.”
