Second-year head coach Amy Gaudard has helped guide the Sacred Heart Academy softball team to a co-championship in the Mid-State Athletic Conference South. Now the coach is hoping her squad can roll off a lengthy postseason run.

The Fighting Irish (26-5 overall, 13-3 at press time) are led by Sara Hansen, who has a school record 66 runs and 82 hits so far this season while hitting a gaudy .656.

Lizzie Albaugh is batting .471 with six home runs, Lauren Sabuda is batting .427, Riley Terwilliger and Erica Hansen are both batting .389, and Kelsey Poag is hitting .356.

Poag is also the team’s leading pitcher, winning 15 games so far with 131 strikeouts and a 1.48 ERA. Courtney Fracassi has 11 wins on the mound, with a 1.58 ERA.

Gaudard said the keys to a lengthy post-season run are “good defense, quality pitching, and timely hitting.”
