The Division 2 state golf finals at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids was a study in contrasts Saturday afternoon. In the team portion of the finals, Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood dominated the competition and won the team title going away. The battle for the individual state medalist, however, was another story as DeWitt senior Tyler Polulak and Hamilton freshman Nick Carlson finished with a two-day total of 139. The two golfers then settled the medalist honors in a playoff that Carlson won on the second hold.
In the team battle Cranbrook-Kingswood jumped out to the lead at the end of the first day with a 299 team total. Cranbrook-Kingswood then built on the lead Saturday with a 289 to finish with a 588 total. DeWitt took second place with a 615 while Big Rapids was third witih a 621 followed by Haslett in fourth place with a 622.
Carlson and Polulak posted identical scores on the two days. On Friday Polulak shot a 68 while Carlson fired a 71. On Saturday it was Carlson who carded a 68 with Polulak shooting a 71. Alex Dombrowski of Gaylor took third with a 140, Dylan Deogun of Cranbrook-Kingswood and Blaze Hogan of Big Rapids were fourth with a 144 while Ben Cook of Grand Rapids South Christian was sixth with a 145.
