Cedar Springs celebrated its first ever league title for girls track on Friday with three-event winner Kenzie Weiler leading the way,
Weiler won the 1,600-meter run in 5:09.80, then won the 800 in 2:21.25 and the 3,200 in 11:40.49. Her sister Katie was second in each of those events.
Cedar also won the 400-meter relay in 51.67. Cedar Springs, which also won all of its league dual meets, posted 128 points compared with 112 for West Catholic with Coopersvile at 90, Forest Hills Northern at 79, Sparta at 60, Belding at 44 and Comstock Park at 14.
“The girls did a great job this year,” said Cedar Springs girls coach Robert Neier. “Whatever event we’ve put them in, even if they stepped out of their comfort zone at times, they’ve stepped up. It paid off in the end.”
In the boys, Sparta posted 155 points to finish ahead of Cedar Springs with 93, West Catholic with 82, FHN 77, Coopersville 74, Belding 24 and Comstock Park 22.
Among the top individual standouts was Connor Mora of Cedar Springs, who was the anchor of the first-place 3,200-meter relay team on Thursday. Mora won the 800-meter run in 1:57.42, the 1,600-meter run in 4:26.47 and 3,200-meter run in 9:37.61.
