BATTLE CREEK — Hudson wretsling coach Scott Marry couldn’t have asked for a better opening-round match in its attempt to four-peat.

The Tigers easily beat Holton 58-7 in their Division 4 quarterfinal match Friday afternoon at Battle Creek’s Kellogg Arena.

Hudson, the No. 1 seed and three-time defending champions in the division, won 12 of the 14 matches wrestled against the Red Devils.

“We just wanted to win and get off the mat,” Marry said. “No one got hurt on reither side, and now we can go and recover from a tough weigh-in today, get our feet back under us and get ready for

The Tigers, who improved to 25-2 with the win, were never in any danger of letting a young Holton team get into the match, and were led by seniors Joel Varney and Devan Marry and sophomore Cole Weaver.

“That’s a good young group,” Scott Marry said. “If you look at their team, they have a lot of good freshmen. They may have as much future promise as anybody down here.”

There were no other surprises in Division 4 Friday. All the higher seeds won, No. 2 New Lothrop beat No. 7 Rogers City 47-19, No. 3 Shelby beat No. 6 Decatur 51-14 and in the best Division 4 quarterfinal of the day, No. 4 Manchester beat No.5 Constantine 35-21

Hudson now takes on Manchester in one semifinal Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., while New Lothrop and Shelby battle in the other. The finals are slated for 4 p.m.
