Ashley

How’s this for balance? In a recent loss to Fulton, Ashley had 35 points but incredible balance. For instance, Dylan Brzak and Justin Wilk scored seven points apiece while Brandon Hier and Tyler Skaryd contributed five points apiece. Brent Campbell had three points and Justin’s brother, Josh, had two.

 

Beal City

Stone Beckwith didn’t take long to go from football to basketball. The standout Beal City athlete scored 30 points in leading the Aggies to a recent 44-37 victory over archrival Sacred Heart Academy. His night included six 3-pointers. He’s been lighting up the scoreboard throughout the season. The Aggies improved to 9-1 on Jan. 20 when Beckwith scored 31 points in a 62-55 win over Pine River.

 

Big Rapids

Nick Baldwin netted 21 points and Quinn Tyson added 20 for Big Rapids in a 63-43 Cental State Activities Association victory recently over White Cloud.

Big Rapids was eighth at the Chippewa Hills Joe Loren Memorial Invitational. The top performer for Big Rapids was Rabanni Nzeza in third place. His record for the season is 11-1.

 

Breckenridge

Morgan Mecomber has had the hot hand for Breckenridge in the early stages of the season. In a recent 48-38 victory over Merrill, Mecomber contributed 18 points. She had 19 points earlier in the season against Ashley in a 62-22 win.

 

Coleman

Ryan Walton had 21 points and eight rebounds in a 54-45 win over Marion for the Comets who are 4-5. Coleman coach Byron Schunk noted that Tim Anderson has been coming off a broken leg he sustained the second week of football season.

 

Crossroads Charter Academy

Brooklyn Carroll scored 14 points, while Kaitlin Reed added 12 in lifting Crossroads past Baldwin 72-8 in what gave the Cougars a 4-0 record prior to suffering their first loss later in December.

Montabella

Sarah Miller scored 15 pointts for Montabella in a victory over Chippewa Hills 44-20.

 

Ovid-Elsie

Greg Greenhoe scored 21 points in leading Ovid-Elsie past Freeland 54-41 in recent boys’ basketball action.

 

Shepherd

The Bluejays were 11th at the Chippewa Hills Joe Loren Memorial Invitational.  There were led by Mike Cline, who was third at 135 pounds and now has a 12-1 record

Marcus Sura had a game-high 15 points, while A.J. Travis scored 11 points in Shepherd’s 47-37 win over Mount Pleasant.

 

Lansing Catholic

Kelly McKeon scored 20 points while Alyssa Albright added 15 in a recent 48-41 win over Corunna.

 

Lansing Christian

Makayla Terry scored 16 points in leading LC past Leslie 52-22 recently. Caleigh Bytwerk netted 11 points for Lansing Christian.

 

Morley Stanwood

The Mohawk girls are ranked No. 2 in Class B by the Associated Press and have started out 9-0. Top players include Bowling Green bound Bailey Cairnduff and Alexis Huntey, who also led MS to the state volleyball title. Elyse Starck is also having a strong start for the Mohawks.

Tri County

Tommy Gilbert led the way for Tri County at the Joe Loren Memorial Invitational at Chippewa Hills with a third-place finish at 103 pounds. He now has a 9-2 record. He defeated Richard Ostrander of Chippewa Hills in the semifinals.

On Jan. 20 for bowling, Tri-County had a meet against Fruitport. Fruitport won 21-9. High scores for Tri-County were junior and captain Jeremy Hoezee 199-192 Senior Casey Wood 173-206 senior Tim Gilbert 175 and junior Jacob Snarski 171.

On Jna. 17 Tri-County had a meet in Ludington against Fremont. Fremont won 30-0. Tri-County was led by junior Jacob Snarski with a 159 and senior Casey wood with a 171.

 

 

Waverly

The girls’ basketball team has started out with a 5-0 record. Sylvia Maxwell scored 17 points and Jasmine Wood added 16 in a recent 70-51 win over Northwest.
