Last season, Portland St. Patrick girls’ basketball head coach Al Schrauben was able to earn his 500th win and coach his team to district and regional championships.
Earlier this year, coach Schrauben earned another honor, as he was inducted into Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame for his 27 years of  success as a coach.  So far as the Shamrocks’ head coach, he has accumulated a record of 513-131, while coaching six Lady Shamrock teams to Class D State Championships and another four to state runner-up trophies.
“This honor might have been given to me, but it belongs to a lot of people and to the program.  It took a lot of people to get us there, but I was happy to accept it for all of us,” said Schrauben.
This season, he his hoping to take his team even farther into the playoffs.
“I only have two girls returning from last season, Sidney Hill and Steph Miros, but our junior varsity was undefeated, and we have some talented players from that squad on varsity this year,” Schrauben said. “I think we will be more athletic and faster this season, and I look for us to be even more competitive.  If we can score, we will be in games.  I like what I’m seeing from this team, and we should do good this season.”
