The wrestling season looks promising for the Trojans of Owosso this season. With a roster heavy on sophomores last winter, the Trojans turned in an 18-17 record.
Those sophomores are now juniors, have a year of experience to their credit, and are looking to make progress this season.
“Last season went pretty good,“ coach Ryan Clevenger said. “We had a lot of sophomores on the team and there was a lot of learning going on.”
Among the wrestlers returning this season are junior Michael Clemons at 160 or 171 pounds, junior Cody Chase at 112, junior Ian Johnson at 189, sophomore Keegan Gute at 119, junior Matt Guyski at 215, and junior Alex Smith at 125 or 130.
The Trojans also have a talented freshman coming up in Tristen Nevadomski. “He has been wrestling MYWAY for awhile now and looks pretty good coming in as a freshman,” Clevenger said.
Overall, Clevenger is looking forward to the season.
“It should be an exciting season,” he said. “We had a great summer of training and I am looking forward to seeing that hard work pay off. We have a great core of young men who truly love to wrestle and work out. They have great attitudes, and that attitude feeds to other wrestlers in the room.”
The Trojans also have some specific goals for the season.
“We would like to get three or four young men to the state tournament and place at least two of them,” Clevenger said. “As a team, we would love to win at least four duals more than we did last year. If we can get 20 dual-meet victories this year, it would be great year.
