The Ionia girls basketball team will be facing some new competition this season. The Lady Bulldogs have moved from the Capital Area Activities Conference Gold division to the CAAC Red along with rivals DeWitt and Haslett. Also joining the Red division will be St. Johns, making this season a tough one for Ionia.
Ionia will have a young team this season, returning only one senior in Shelby Atkinson. Also returning is three-year player junior Erika Ketchum. Head coach Andy Barr will be looking for these two to help lead his team this year.
The team will be starting two sophomores, Taylor Bovee and Sarah Swartz, who helped lead their team in scoring last season.
Last season, the Bulldogs finished with a record of 9-12 overall and 5-5 in the CAAC Gold, but they were in every game. With the improvements the girls have made in the off-season and the team’s switch to the Red division, this season looks to be an exciting one for Ionia.
