Allison Goodman, a senior, and Hanna Holmi, a sophomore, had excellent seasons for Waverly’s girls golf team.  Both qualified for the state finals October 14 and 15 at Oakland University’s Katke-Cousins Golf Course.

Goodman qualified for the finals by shooting 83 at regionals, while Holmi shot 90. At the finals, Goodman shot rounds of 89 and 98 for 186 total, and Holmi had scores of 105 and 100 for 205.

“At the state tournament, the weather was very severe; it was bad, rainy, Saturday, especially,” said Waverly coach Mark Feinauer. “The course at Oakland University is challenging. All things considered, I think they did well. I was happy for them to make it there. They both set high expectations for themselves.

“Allison has been close for a number of years. I was happy she made it to state. She’s a very consistent player. Her play is solid all around. She doesn’t have any real weaknesses.”

For nine holes, Goodman has been shooting between 39 and 45 with few exceptions.

Goodman will graduate, but Holmi will return for two more seasons, which puts a smile on Feinauer’s face.

“Her strength is her putting,” Feinauer said. “She’s an exceptional putter. She can go to the hole because of her ability to putt.”
