It wasn’t the type of scores she wanted, but Ithaca senior Jessica Black still had plenty of fun competing at the state golf finals.
Black qualified for the Division 4 state finals October 14 and 15 at Forest Akers Golf course on the Michigan State University campus.
She wound up shooting 118 the first day and 117 the next for 235 total.
“With the weather conditions, I was pretty happy with my scores,” Black said. “On Friday, it was cold and windy and rainy. On Saturday, it was really windy.”
“It was higher [scores] than she had hoped,” said Ithaca’s first-year coach Jess Miller. “She had our lowest average of anyone on the team. The last two weeks of the season, she started playing very well.”
Black was in her third varsity season and qualified for the finals for the first time.
“I just got better throughout the season,” Black said, adding that driving was among her strongest points.
Her nine-hole average was 55, while her 18-hole average was 110.
