Trevor Jones has had quite a season at quarterback for Coleman’s football team. His coach, Chad Klopf, said it’s easy to explain why.
“Trevor has really stepped up his game the past few weeks,” Klopf said. “He’s moving well in the pocket, making good decisions, and making good passes. He has a lot of trust and confidence in his teammates, as he has completed passes to nine different players so far this year.”
“My junior year, I shared time with the other senior,” Jones said. “I’m starting this year. Last year I started four. I’ve improved a ton through the off-season. Workouts and all the seven-on-sevens has really helped out.”
Through seven games, Jones was 112 of 202 for 1,695 yards and 17 touchdowns with only six interceptions. He also had two rushing touchdowns and was credited with 17 tackles on defense as a cornerback.
The game against Sacred Heart Academy was a highlight.
He primarily ran our under package last season and spotted for Kaleb MacDonald because of injuries during the season last year,” Klopf said. “The confidence he gained last season is really showing now.”
“We were getting the ball out and making good throws,” Jones said.“I don’t run a lot this year. I’m more of a pocket passer. We don’t having much of a run game since Tim [Anderson] got hurt. We’ve tried to figure out how to get the offense going and found it with our passing game.”
Anderson broke a leg early in the season.
Jones noted that opening the season with a win over Farwell, a playoff team from a year ago, helped set the tone for a successful regular season.
“We came out and played hard,” he said. “We focused on that game all summer and we got it.”
Jones played quarterback starting in the eighth grade.
“My rocket football coaches thought I had good leadership skills and put me in there to lead the team,” he said. “I broke my ankle, but my freshman year they put me back there and I’ve been there since.”
Jones also plays basketball, but he said football is his best sport.
