Jordan Terry likes Lansing Christian’s chances to enjoy championship success in boys soccer this season.

Terry is a sophomore in his second varsity season with the soccer team. He has scored six goals so far this year, following a 12-goal total a year ago. He plays attack midfield and forward. He has shown a “good amount of improvement” and said his role this year is to “score and be a leader.”

He’s in his 10th year of organized soccer. He also plays basketball for Lansing Christian.

In soccer, I see the field pretty well,” Terry said. “I distribute the ball and I’m a good finisher.”

The team, Terry said, hopes to win the league and districts “and see where we go from there. Our defense is really strong.”

Lansing Christian has also been relying heavily on the talents of junior goalkeeper Josh Lyon, in his second season.

Last year, with myself, I was pretty happy,” Lyon said. “This year I’d say I was lot better. Last year, I was young, and with the older guys, I held my own and did what I needed to do when the time came. I wasn’t a great goalie, but I didn’t really need to be. We wound up losing the regional championships. We beat a lot of Class B schools.

This year, we’re not bad. We lost nine seniors, six starters. Graduation killed us. We only have five returning starters, me included. We’re okay. We only have one starting senior. Next year, we’ll be really good.”

Compared to last year, “I’ve improved a lot,” Lyon said. “Last year was my first year of playing. I played a lot through the winter and spring. That helped me. Personally, I improved a lot.”

Quickness is a Lyon strength.

“I’m also a baseball player. I have good hands,” he said.

Lyon has played soccer most of his life but didn’t play goalie until his freshman season.

I volunteered,” he said. “We didn’t have a goalie. I did it, liked it. I practiced more and more and worked at it. I really enjoyed it.”
