The Lady Dawgs took home first place in eleven out of twelve events to defeat Lansing Legacy 111-53.
Claiming first-place finishes for Ionia were Ashleigh Babcock in the 50 free (27.15 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.09), Shyenne Fish in the 200 free (2:16.32) and the 500 free (6:04.17), Ami Stauffer in the 200 Individual Medley (2:51.11) and the 100 butterfly (1:16.68), Bre Miller in the 100 free (1:09.17), and Hannah Kusmierz in the 100 breaststroke (1:26.18).
“Most of our team is new this season and have never swam before, but they did great and I think we will do well this year as a team,” said coach Kimarie Fish. “I’m looking to Babcock to provide us with leadership, but this team really supports each other and even though we are a young team, we should swim well.”
The Lady Dawg’s relay teams also took first in two of the three events. Coming in first were the team of Kusmierz, Babcock, Fish, and Stauffer in the 200 medley relay (2:08.85) and the team of Fish, Babcock, Miller, and Stauffer in the 400 free relay (4:46.35).
Taking second places were Kusmierz in the 200 IM (3:08.23), Miller in the 50 free (30.07), and Autumn Shattuck in the 100 back (1:25.21).
Taking third places were Allie Shreve (200 IM), Brittany Zuber (100 back), Kendell Alcalar (50 free), and Hannah Melvin (100 back).
