Last year, the Grand Ledge Comets girls golf team finished fourth in the CAAC Blue, and with all the experience they have returning this season, new Comets head coach Tom Lindemann is looking to improve on that. For the last two years, Lindemann has been the assistant boys coach at Lansing Catholic Central.
The Comets and coach Lindemann are already reaching goals that they set for the season.
“The girls are hitting new milestones every week,” Lindemann said. “They broke 400 as a team for an eighteen-hole match, and they broke 200 for a nine-hole match. They also shot a 170 at our jamboree, and the confidence alone that it gave them was priceless.”
Grand Ledge is a small team this season, with only eight girls. But coach Lindemann hopes that the experience some of those eight girls have will be enough to take them to the top of their league.
“We only have eight golfers on the team, so they rotate a lot,” Lindemann said. “We have two seniors Samantha Kranich and Heather Promer, two juniors Haley Blumer and Beth Boman, three sophomores Alexis Mrozinski, Nicole Graham, and Taylor Bean, and freshman Ashlee Wells.”
The Comets missed out on a big prize last season and are looking to make up for that this fall.
“They missed the state tournament last year by three shots, and this year they want to qualify for it,” Lindemann said. “That’s our number one goal. Our second goal is, now that they know they have the talent and know they can compete with the other teams in the league, to finish in the top three in our league.”
