Last season was a productive one for the East Lansing girls golf team, and with plenty of veteran golfers back, the Trojans are aiming to pick up where they left off.
The Trojans battled Holt for the CAAC Blue title last season before finishing in second place in the league. East Lansing capped the year by taking sixth place at the Division 2 state meet. With the return of several seniors, led by Maggie Campbell, the Trojans are aiming for an even loftier finish at the state tournament.
Campbell leads a deep and talented core of senior golfers that also includes Kathryn Cleary and Ashley Person along with juniors Kristin Crippen, Marie Fata, Maddie Riley, Harriet Spears, and Amber Leyrer.
The team turned in a strong performance against some of the premier golf teams in the state when it placed fourth overall at the East Lansing Invitational on September 19.
Fata fired an 83 to finish in the top ten at the tournament, while Crippen shot an 86, Campbell shot an 87, and Riley carded a 98.
East Lansing totaled a 354 team score at the tournament and placed ahead of fellow CAC Blue foes Holt (351), Okemos (362), and Grand Ledge (426).
Earlier in the season, the Trojans competed at the Holt Invitational where they finished 11th overall. Fata led the Trojans with a 95, while Riley shot a 96, and Spears a 98.
