It was sweet 16 for Ithaca last week in a 27-6 victory over St. Charles to remain perfect this season at 2-0.
The defending Division 6 state champs have won 16 straight.
Ithaca sophomore QB Travis Smith threw for 199 yards and one touchdown and also ran for six points. He passed 80 yards to Charles Schnetzler to open the scoring.
It was 7-6, Ithaca, but the Yellow Jackets had a 20-0 scoring advantage the rest of the way.
Garrett Miniard had another big night at running back with 86 yards on 13 carries. Bradley Martyn recovered a fumble in the end zone for Ithaca. Schnetzler caught 101 yards in passing.
“Our defense was fantastic. We held St. Charles to 96 total yards at their place,” Ithaca coach Terry Hessbrook said.
“Our game this week is with Valley Lutheran. They are much improved. On offense they are averaging over 50 points a game. I think that they are a very dangerous team. They have outstanding speed at the skilled positions. We may have to play without Brown again for the second straight week.”
