Ovid-Elsie had a strong defensive performance Friday night but it wasn’t enough in a 19-6 loss to Portland to open the regular season.
Jeff Houska led the Ovid-Elsie defense with 17 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. Tate Coleman had 13 tackles and Cal Martin had 11.
Dustin Karlik added 76 yards receiving with one TD.
“We have upcoming games with Shepherd and Chesaning,” said Maurader coach Travis Long. “We must play better to win.”
