FARWELL ― Farwell’s volleyball team fired out to a season opening win last Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Evart.
Farwell lost 25-23 to open the match. But the Eagles took the next three games to win the match 25-16, 26-24, 25-19.
Jenna Hamming netted 13 kills and Ashley Gaskill had eight kills for Farwell. Ruckle added 12 digs.
“I thought we did very well,” said Farwell coach Jacob Sullivan. “We tipped when we needed to. They stayed focus, went for the win and got it.”
“Farwell came out a little more flat-footed in the first game than we did,” said Evart coach Cindy Zielinski, adding that the third game was a key turning point.
Gaskill, a senior, is expected to be among the Eagles’ top players this season.
“We were better focused and pushed hard,” Gaskill said of the win against Evart. “I thought we looked real good. This is probably the best first game we’ve ever had. Communication is big for us. We have to make sure we keep talking to each other.”
