That’s 30 straight wins for the unstoppable Ithaca Yellowjackets.
Coach Terry Hessbrook’s two-time defending state champions made it 2-0 with a convincing 62-14 victory over Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary at Ithaca on Thursday. Ithaca has won 30 straight since the beginning of the 2010 season.
Seminary fell to 1-1 with the loss.
The game started out tight with a 14-14 tie after the first quarter. But Ithaca rattled off 28 unanswered points for a 42-14 halftime lead. It was 20-0 in point production for Ithaca in the second half.
Travis Smith had a 4-yard scoring run and Godwin had a 99-yard kickoff return in the first quarter for the hosts.
In the second quarter, Godwin had a 52-yard punt return while Kaden Kipp caught a 45-yard scoring pass from Smith, who had touchdown runs of 11 yards and 1 yard.
Jacob Barnes had a 3-yard scoring run and Brian Shaw caught a 25-yard pass from Smith in the third quarter. Shaw had a 12-yard run in the fourth.
Sage DeMull booted 8-of-9 in extra-point tries.
Smith was 7-of-12 in passing for 106 yards and rushed for 56 yards.
