The Pewamo-Westphalia boys cross-country team picked up a key victory as it took first place at the Laingsburg Invitational.
The Pirates totaled 93 points to edge Mason County Central by two points for the title. Owosso placed fourth with 134 while Haslett took fifth with 134, DeWitt was sixth with 151, Williamston was seventh with 175, Ithaca was ninth with 205, Bath was tenth with 244 and Perry was 12th with 335.
Pewamo-Westphalia was paced by Greg Trieweiler and Joel Pennell who both placed in the top ten. Trierweiler was sixth overall in a time of 16:58 while Pennell was eighth in a time of 17:05. Tanner Droste took 14th place with a time of 17:16.
Owosso was led by Caleb Hess who placed 16th in a time of 17:18. Eli Jenkinson was 20th for Owosso in 17:30 while Dakota Brasseur was 29th in 18:03.
Haslett was paced by Kenna Gegissa who placed second overall with a time of 16:27. Alex McCormick took seventh place in 16:58 while Luke Corder was ninth in 17:06.
DeWitt had one top-ten runner as Nate Kimble placed 10th in 17:08. Mitch Kolito took 21st in 17:31 while Aaron Scheffler was 30th overall in 18:08.
For Williamston Ben Thoenes led the way as he took 13th in 17:15. Alexander Krantz was 22nd in 17:33 while Connor Coscarelli was 40th in 18:30.
Ithaca was paced by Stephen Merchant who took fifth place overall in a time of 16:57. Alik Helms was 25th overall in 17:33.
Bath was led by Nick Thomas who finished 12th in 17:15. William Spagnuolo took 27th in 17:47 while Russell Lipe turned in a time of 19:52.
Perry was paced by Ian Nemeth who turned in a time of 17:25 and placed 17th overall. Brett Navarre was 51st overall in 18:50.
Ian Stewart led the way for host Laingsburg in a time of 18:17 which was good for 35th. Alex Sperry turned in a itme of 19:50 while Jacob Rouse finished in 19:55.
