Ithaca won’t have an easy time trying to make it 29 straight wins this week.
But when the Yellowjackets take on Williamston in Thursday’s season opener, that’s what the assignment will be.
For Ithaca, the game this season is on the road. The two-time defending state champions will have three of their first four games on the road.
Junior quarterback Travis Smith leads a solid Ithaca offensive attack.
“It’s a very tough opener,” Ithaca coach Terry Hessbrook said. “They’re a Division 4 school. With 650 students, we’re at 400. It’s a very difficult opener. That will give us a good indication of where we’re at.”
The Hornets were 4-4 last season. Key players back are lineman Zach Bentley, linebacker Patrick Loewen and wide receiver Ray Duncan.
