For years, the Belding community has banded behind its football team. Big crowds for Belding games have been the norm and the team is well represented on the road.
This season, the Redskins under new coach Joe Schwander will be giving back to the community that has supported them through thick and thin.
While the opening game of the season against Greenville will definitely be a huge game as usual, the Sept. 21 game against Comstock Park will be equally as important. That game will be the “Believe Game” which will be a game for charity.
“The “Believe” game on September 21 will raise funds to help support families in the Belding community that are struggling financially due to their costly Cancer medical treatments,” said Schwander.
The football season is being highly anticipated as the Redksins welcome in a new coach in Joe Schwander. Schwander played his high school football down the road in Rockford under legendary coach Ralph Munger and is the latest head coach in West Michigan to have learned the game under Munger.
The Redskins have a promising team this season led by several talented linemen. Those linemen include seniors Michael Stephan and Levi Eldred, junior Chase Fairchild-Kenny and sophomore Bryce Wilker.
Belding also welcomes back senior running back/strong safety Brendan Zuver, senior quarterback/strong safety Brady Badder, senior linebacker/tight end Jake Jones, junior linebacker/tight end JP Willmore, jnior running back/defensive back Nick Price and junior running back/linebacker Neil McCully,
The Redskins open the season next Friday when they face rival Greenville to kick off the season.
