Over the years, Davison High School has produced a number of outstanding athletes in different sports like golf, baseball, wrestling, and basketball.

This winter, Davison senior Tylor Greene stamped himself as one of the finest athletes to ever come out of Davison, as he captured his second individual state bowling title.

Overcoming a slow start at the Division 1 state finals March 3 in Battle Creek, Greene finished strong to claim his second individual state title in the past three years.

“Tylor is just an incredibly talented young man,” coach Robert Tubbs said. “I was blessed to have him as a bowler the last four years and so has Davison High School. His career has just been fantastic.”

Greene defeated Kevin Yang of Lake Orion in the finals by the score of 438-435. Greene rolled a 258 in his first game of the finals and then rolled a 180 in his second game.

“When Tylor won it as a sophomore there were a lot of tears,” Tubbs said. “This time, it was a lot more of a feeling of relief.”

Greene reached the finals by defeating Nicholas Robison of Saline 460-392 in the semifinals and Adam Young of Utica 382-315 in the quarterfinals.

Greene almost missed out on a second state title.  He finished in a tie for 16th place in qualifying and had to defeat Eric Pavlov of Detroit Catholic Central in a roll off to get into the round of 16 in match play.

Greene and his Davison teammates almost earned a double-double, as the Cardinals reached the semifinal round of the Division 1 team tournament the day before.

Davison was dominant in morning qualifying, finishing first with 3,539 pins. In the quarterfinals, the Cardinals defeated Stevenson 1,208 – 1,194. The Cardinals, however, fell short in the semifinals, as eventual state champion Dakota defeated them 1,216 – 1,166.

“We lost a close one, but that’s bowling,” Tubbs said. “Overall, I’m proud of our season. We won our fourth consecutive regional, and we made it to our fourth consecutive elite eight. We also finished second in the state. It was another great season.”
