Sarah Miller has been making quite an impact on a Montabella girls basketball team that started out 10-3 and has had a solid season.
Miller a sophomore, is in her second varsity season and has been averaging about 14 points per game.
“I have improved quite a bit,” she said. “I went from being a guard to more of a post player.”
She also played post during her junior high season.
“I’m there to lead my team and to score and to definitely help my teammates,” she said.
A season highlight included scoring 21 points against Coleman. She’s been scoring mainly on layups and drives.
“Definitely my strength is my left-hand baseline drive,” Miller said, adding that she’s working on improving her outside shooting. “There’s not another group of girls I’d rather play with. We have a great bond.”
During the offseason, Miller has been playing a lot of AAU basketball and will go into that schedule when the season ends.
The Mustangs have the dubious distinction of playing in the same Mid-State Activities Conference as top-ranked Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart.
“The conference (title) is kind of out, but we want to be district champs and see how far we can go,” Miller said. “Defense is definitely what we want to shoot for, working hard together, giving everything we’ve got and playing smart. We want to have less than 14 turnovers.”
