The Dow volleyball team set a school record with 47 wins this season, but Midland got the better of the Chargers in the district finals, where the Chemics won 25-22, 23-25, 28-26, 25-20.

“It was tough for the players and the coaching staff,” head coach Kristin Eddy said of the season coming to an end. “The team worked so well together and enjoyed playing the game. I know that they wanted to make a run this season and believed that they possessed the personnel and team chemistry that could achieve that goal.”

Though the Charges fell in the championship, they did pick up a semifinal win over Bay City Western (25-9), 25-14, 25-16 and a first round game over Heritage 25-13, 25-8, 25-19.

In the district tournament, senior Kate Pretty totaled 39 kills, 12 blocks, and 53 digs; twin sister Victoria Pretty had 17 kills and 10 blocks; Kaitlin Mault totaled 15 kills, 35 digs, and six aces; Emily Magurno had 19 kills, seven blocks, and 24 digs; and Josie Queary had 89 assists and 33 digs.

“Overall I enjoyed the season,” Eddy said. “It was a great year with a school record for most wins and most tournament wins [four]. I think this year set the bar for the next few years in terms of what is expected from Dow High volleyball teams.

“We will be very busy in the off-season” Eddy added. “The main focus will be getting early game experience. We will be young at the net. Queary will be a veteran setter with two years under her belt. We will have a core group of defensive players back.”
