The Bath boys and girls cross country teams have both been blazing the trails this fall, and the most exciting news for the programs is that the best is yet to come.
Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams have plenty of young runners who are not only clocking some strong times this season but who will also get better in the coming years.
For the girls, freshman Annie Fanta leads the way. Fanta has turned in top times all season with a personal-best of 19:36.4 that she turned in at Carson City-Crystal. She also finished 22nd overall at the Greater Lansing Cross Country Championships.
Sophomore Kwyn Trevino has also been posting some strong times. Trevino went 20:14.6 at the Pewamo-Westphalia meet and was 32nd overall at the Greater Lansing.
Junior Alyssa Abendroth has turned in a low time of 20:19, while freshman Samantha Evans has turned in a time of 20:57, and senior Maggie Hammond went 21:54.
The Bath boys have also been running strong this year.
Junior Nick Thomas has led the way for the boys, as he broke the 18-minute mark with a time of 17:50.1 at Pewamo-Westphalia.
Sophomore Brad Coulter turned in a time of 18:46 at Laingsburg, while sophomore William Spagnuolo went 18:46.9 at Pewamo-Westphalia.
Junior Zach Seldon had a time of 19:14, while junior Russell Lipe posted a time of 19:18.
FOOTBALL
The Bath football team posted three wins this fall, but they were not far from doubling that total.
The Bees finished 3-6 this season, but a total of 13 points were all that separated the team from doubling that win total and qualifying for the playoffs.
A key to Bath’s play this year was improvement on offense. Led by quarterback Dylan Moffitt, the Bees averaged 22.2 points per game, the best offensive output since 2000.
Moffitt paced a potent air game that incorporated the skills of Tyler Fitch, who also was a mainstay in the ground game.
Bath had a number of impressive games on offense, including a pair of games where it scored 30 or more points.
The Bees started the season strong, winning three of their first six games.
Bath’s final two games were a pair of close losses. Bath dropped a 28-27 decision to playoff-bound Fulton and came up five points shy against Saranac (25-20). The other loss was a close 28-21 contest against Dansville.
